When gun enthusiasts first become excited about using Airsoft guns, they often want to buy products to get started as soon as possible. However, gun selections are so vast that they really don’t have a clue as to what they should buy. They could ask their friends of course, but then they would just get an opinionated answer as to which guns are the best. The following is a brief guide that beginners can go by when they make their first gun purchase. It is important to think things through carefully before selecting a particular gun, because guns, tactical gear, and related accessories aren’t cheap.
Types of Airsoft Guns
Pistol and Mini Electric: Electric Airsoft guns are replicated after submachine guns and rifles. They are scaled down into toy guns that are smaller, but the look is pretty much the same. Airsoft pistols are about the same size as a regular pistol. Electric guns are quite popular, because the motor is battery operated to have long lasting power and performance. If the trigger is held down on a mini electric gun, it will transform into a high powered machine gun that is fully automatic.
Spring Guns and Rifles: Spring guns and rifles are sometimes called “springers”. They are both single-shot, and stored energy in the spring is used to propel a pellet through the barrel to be discharged. These guns need to be cocked before each pellet is fired, just as you would on a regular shotgun. This can be accomplished by pulling the back of the bolt or slide, which will cause compression in the spring, to make the gun ready to fire. These guns do not have the capability to fire automatically.
Gas and Automatic Electric Guns: Gas Airsoft guns are designed to utilize pressurized gas, in order to propel pellets. They can be automatic, depending on the preference of the gun owner. Propane and HFC134a refrigerant are the two most common types of gases that are used, but nitrogen and CO2 can be used as well. There are both pro and beginner level automatic electric guns (AEG) for people who don’t want to bother with gas. These guns use rechargeable batteries to run the electric motors. The motor works by cycling the internal spring or piston assembly, to launch BB’s or pellets. These guns are some of the most heavily used in competitions today, because they have the capability of reaching muzzle velocity of up to 400 feet. They can fire at rates of anywhere in between 300 to 800 rounds of ammunition per minute.
